Lagos State Set For Local Government Elections

By Ezenwenyi Stanley.C

Lagos state political landscape will be very busy from January to March in preparation and antisipation of the elections into the 20 local government councils (LGs) and 37 local development council areas (LCDAs). Political parties are battle ready as plans for their primaries have been concluded. It is on record that the elections have been pending since 2014 when the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, instead of initiating new election processes to replace the last set of elected local government chairmen, chose to appoint caretaker committees, headed by chairmen, for the LGs and LCDAs.
Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the incumbent governor followed the path, first appointing executive secretaries (ES) to replace the caretaker committee heads and recently sole administrators to replace the ES.

With the court giving an order for elections to be held , the atmosphere is clear as posters of aspirants are already out especially on the internet. Local governments like Apapa,Ojo,Ikeja,Amuwo Odofin,Epe, Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island are gathering momentum for the elections.
