15 Years after the last local government election was held in the state, the people of Anambra state after a very long time voted yesterday the 11th day of January 2014 , but there were reports of irregularities and violence which have given a negative believe that perhaps the ruling party in the state APGA  might have hijacked the electoral process.
In Nnewi and Awka South, youths were said to have stopped the dispatching of election materials to the polling units. They blamed their action on non availability of result sheets.
In Nnewi, APC members engaged their APGA counterparts in a scuffle, leading to the non distribution of electoral materials.
In Agulu Awka ward 5, Awka South council area, there was no election owing to non availability of voting materials and shortage of staff.
Opposition parties alleged that most ANSIEC staff brought for the election at the ward were APGA members.
Councillorship candidates in the ward- Chinedu Agumadu of PPA, Azuka Wobu of Labour Party, Kenechukwu Muolookwu of Accord party, Onyii Ekwenugo of PDP and Ejike Nonyelu of PPN mobilized their supporters to stop the election.
They insisted that the election materials would not be distributed to any polling unit except result sheets were shown to them.
Their placards read “No result sheets, no election; No returning officer, no election”.
At Nkwelle, Awka South Local Government Area, ballot materials were burnt when a fight broke out because polling officers failed to produce result sheets.
There was also violence at Igboukwu Town Hall, Fegge, Onitsha, where some youths protested against alleged thumb-printing by members of a particular political party.
